Gas bottle transporting

How do you transport/store your gas bottle in your Patrol?
This is more a question for the wagon owners as utes have different options.
Do you carry inside or mount to the roof rack?
If you do put it on the roof, how do you secure it?
4.5 kg bottle being referenced here.

I won't carry any gas bottle inside a wagon at all not even the small chuck away jobs .

Never ever carry one inside.
If I take one away. It's strapped on the roof rack.
Get a milk crate.
It fits perfectly inside a milk crate , then it's strapped down .

I thought the milk crates suited the 9kg.. I guess some ocky straps will secure the 4kg in place.

I'm guilty, always carry it in the car when getting an exchange. Have also been know to carry the throw away ones in there as well.

How do I safely transport small cylinders of LP gas?

For LP gas cylinders to be used for domestic purposes such as a barbecue, where possible transport the LP gas cylinders (properly restrained) in a trailer or the tray of a ute.

If this is not possible, the following precautions will help you to transport LP gas cylinders safely:

do not transport cylinders exceeding nine kilograms

ensure cylinders have a current legible test mark

do not carry cylinders in the enclosed boot of a vehicle

ensure vehicle windows are wound down for cross-flow ventilation

ensure cylinders are in an upright position on the vehicle floor and secured so they cannot move

do not smoke in the vehicle

remove the cylinder from the vehicle as soon as possible.

Remember—separate and ventilate!

Domestic V Touring pick up/swap/home may be key possibly here/queried, not sure? @Kimbo over in WA had a great roof rack base for his 4.5kg bottle clamp easy/fast lock down system on his setup. Personally have carried 9kg bottles to home from the local servo behind our wagons steel cargo barrier jammed in tight. The NO smoking on the way home is new advice I should adhere to :-(

Plumber in Melbourne some years ago had a leaking Butane cylinder which ignited when he turned the key to accessories and pretty much took everything off above door height including him .

They suit the small ones too. Fits nicely inside the crate some rags on the side to stop it rumbling around . One strap through the crate over the top of bottle on the roof basket and it's good as gold.
