Soooo...my Odometer stopped ticking over...

Evening critters and fellow Coily oilers...

I have a 1990 TD42 GQ wagon. Its a new addition and the previous owner told me to look out for the random ODI stroke...The Odometer seems to stop here and there...Is it mechanical or electrickery?

Just hit the trip counter reset....... Mine does it from time to time. I'm guessing there's something mechanical in there that gets stuck, probably a small cog

Must be a common thing mine does the same thing .

Had my entire cluster sent off and repaired. Yes it is the nylon cogs that wear.

i had that in my 90 gq, got a 2nd hand petrol one and swapped the bits over. got my old one sitting waiting for me to fix it.

Am looking to get a major service done after all the upgrades are in and was going to get Nissan to sort it then.

i got someone to spin the sender and checked the signal at the dash with a mulitmeter, looked at some photos and discovered my speedo section was missing 2 components. (legs corroded is my guess). pulled both clusters apart swapped the speedo into my cluster and i'm good. took me maybe 1hr to swap and fit cluster. a couple screw drivers mulit meter to test, was pretty easy.

The speedo & tacho on mine either stopped working or jumping intermittently few years back.
I opened it up & cleaned the electrical connections with a tooth brush or piece of cloth or something and put it back.
It has never given me trouble since then. I've been wondering whether trip meter and odometer issues might be the same(other than mechanical issues with wheels, etc). AFAIK, in mine, there are no mechanical cables that goes to the back of the instrument cluster for the trip and odometer.

Cool mite get up the courage to pull it out n have a good look at the brains...found some old posts that talk about the worm gear on the motor slipping off...etc...
