I can beat that.

Wife kept on me about the smell of petrol in the car (XW Fairmont GS 302 with toploader but no power steering)

Finally listened to her and traced it to the well in the fuel tank that the spare tyre sat in prior to it floating in the well full of petrol.
Stuffed tyre but no fire.

Moral of the story. When she who must be obeyed says she smells something its best and cheaper to listen quickly.
Hates petrol smell but really really hates the smell of diesel and vehicles without power steering.
