I was sleeping in the car and now have the rv5 which is awesome but just not practical for quick trips and definitely not practical in snow.

Agree, hopeless in snow, not designed for it. Last years snow trip had one collapse at 2am in a howling blizzard and with 30cm snow on the roof, snapped poles on both sides, not covered by warranty. Guy was not happy but its not a 4 seasons tent.

    What did you buy today

Yeah the rv5 is a wonderful tent but I agree, the frame is definitely vulnerable. I camped with crazy winds one night and the frame was very close to bending on winds hitting the side. If it wasn't for the tie downs it would've folded in half for sure.

Any excessive weight on top would crumble it.

The only good thing about an 80 series is..... the front end?? Wrong!!, the Engine?? Wrong!! the Full Time 4WD system?? Wrong!! Its the NissanPatrol.com.au stubby holder fitted over the transfer lever.
