In the days of old tuning a carb by "ear" meant turning the mixture screw say
clock wise till it spluttered, then you turned it anti clockwise counting the turns
till it spluttered. Then you would calculate how many turns divide that in half.
that was your sweet spot.
or
Rev it to 2000rpm turning the screw [mixture] you could hear the "sweet" spot
very easily,,,,,,,,,lol
Remember you'll never get economy and performance at the same time
