My 2nd hand Aldi winch is still going as well, but the brake mechanism is useless.
My advice is: not to follow my advice.

It was full of rusty water when I stripped it. After a long tedious clean out, I ran a bead of silicon around internal vertical faces of both the motor end and the gearbox end. and I then fitted a layer of glad wrap on the silicon and assembled the unit loosely and let it set. After a day I removed the wrap and tightened the fasteners. With a smear of water proof grease on each end of the drum it runs smoothly. I have had the unit under three feet of water and not a drop entered.

Mines been in for a drink quite a few times , perhaps a bit of maintenance might be useful , either that or next time they come up at Aldi I could buy a new one and replace the old one , maybe keep it for spares .

They come up for sale once or twice a year. And they sell out very quickly .

I think I will upgrade. The first stage of the gearing runs on aluminium teeth moulded into the casing. I have seen some of more expensive units have all steel gearing and stronger braking mechs. My unit's brake is only anchored with a couple of grub screws.

Only problem I've ever had was I left the hand controller on wireless mode and the battery in the hand controller went flat which meant I couldn't use the winch in either mode until the battery was replaced .
I now switch to wired mode until I need to use it so if battery does go flat again at least I can use it with the wires plugged in in .

Do you really think a remote [wireless] hand control is worth it.
More of a gimmick IMO as there is too much delay when compared to the
OE controller, which is slow in its own right..........
When my patrol is going Ill be fitting a pressurizing kit to it only needs
a couple of pounds of pressure to be workable.....
I have a spare 10,00lb winch here I will re-co at some stage

Best thing about the winch is the wireless hand control TD , mine is starting to get a delay but it might be time for a new battery .
