Thanks to having this thread in the back of my mind when we had a flat coming back from the meet up in the middle it saved us from loosing the wheel!!
We had the flat when we were 600km from home and each time we stopped along the way we checked the wheel and all was good.
Lucky for us we kept checking as when we had done over 400km two of the indicators had moved and one nut was finger tight!!!

Good time for a reminder with Family 4x4 losing a wheel, not a Nissan problem this time but possibly bad workmanship.
Always retighten them after 15 or so Kays.
Weather is warming up so get out there and check your nuts .
Feel free to let others check for you lol

    BUMPETY BUMP...

Checked my nuts today... had a weird occasional 'clicking' noise from the back end.
I took my steelies off a while ago and put the mags back on.
Checked them the next day and then forgot about 'em till now
Sure enough 7 out of 12 (5 pax 2 drivers) rear wheel nuts that needed up to 1/8th of a turn maybe a tad more to torque up.
Dolphins are so smart that within a few weeks of captivity, they can train people to stand on the very edge of the pool and throw them fish.

Been driving for over 50 years now (shit I must be getting on a bit) and have had 2 'nut' incidents.
The first was caused by a tyre mob who failed to properly tighten after a tyre refit on a wagon around town. I noticed a grinding sound after a few miles and was able to correct it before anything serious happened.
The second time was between the Barkley Homestead and Camooweal when I almost lost a set of duals on a big one. No noise this time but an odd surging sensation. Stopped for a check and they were so hot from the grinding metal that they caught fire. Luckily there was an extinguisher so no major damage except for buggered axle, rims, tyres, brake gear etc. This time the wheels had not been touched in many weeks, so it DOES definitely happen.
Have you noticed that most mine sites (and others) now have those little plastic indicators on wheel nuts so any movement can be easily observed without the need to apply a wheel brace?

It is so prevalent on Patrols that Nissan had a service campaign a year or so back and you could get the Nut tension checked and indicators fitted gratis
