For a normal city car yes. BUT for one that sees dirt/mud joined wires are the worst.

I have always wondered what the purpose is of pre-assembled Weatherproof Connector that has to have the equipment wires crimped/spliced/whatever in about 2 inches away from the connector.

That now means you have 3 connections where you only need 1 (splice to connection to splice instead of just a connection)

Wouldn't you be better off buying the Weatherproof Connector and just assemble it with the original equipment wires ?
Years ago I helped a fellow sparky wire a flash boat, real flash it was. We had insulated crimp connectors you know the red, blue and yellow ones.

But, they were grease filled with a seal that the cable was pushed through into the connector then crimped.

Were supposed to be waterproof and corrosion resistant.

    Can they still be sourced?
    Cheers

Hey mate, yeah they are available. Hideously expensive of course but certainly available. I would think a solder join and some resin filled heatshrink would be the easiest method for joining onto these.
But of course it is another unnecessary join.

Probably. I reckon they'd be cheaper and quicker to get online though.
