Had the same thing happen on the work Getz.
Clean the slot where it runs through, use Mr Sheen on a cloth (slippery stuff).

I bit more on the frayed belt bit if its too frayed it will be un road worthy and dangerous to boot.
replace it as soon as possible, don't play with safety.
I wonder if the 7 seat belts would fit in the front, mine are just tucked
down the D pillar, anyone done this
EDIT;;;;;Does anyone know if they fit

Some years ago I tried all of the ideas you guys have suggested and a few more. None of them worked for me and I was really getting pizzed with belts catching in doors and not sitting properly. At the end of the day if you did have an accident and the belt is not positioned correctly - it could actually do more harm than good.
In frustration I spent the money and bought the belts from here: https://www.seatsafe.com.au/
They are far better than the originals and I have had no issues since.
No point in getting original Nissan belts - in a short time you would have the same issues again. Bite the bullet - clear out the moths - and spend a few pounds (yep I bet you still have some tucked away) on decent belts!

You need to call them and speak to them. They originally said the same to me because their information said mine had pre tensioners built in - which they don't. Not sure about yours - but if they don't have pre tensioners I'm fairly sure they would be the same as mine (GU2 4 door).
There was a Serivce bulletin released on this some time ago. Not sure if it'll be of any use and most off its probably already been covered by others but I'll put it up anyway for information

Yep - seen that before as well. I have used many, many different seat belts in different cars over a lot of years and I never had to use "cleaning wire" or "cleaning tape" or any other shyte. The belts have always worked - except in Patrols.
The fact is the wind mechanism in the belt loses its tension reasonably quickly and just won't work. You would think that after years of this crap Nissan would have woken up to the fact some time ago and replaced the belts in later cars - but they didn't. When I installed the new belts I tried to pull the old ones apart as I thought they could be wound on a bit more. Good luck trying that! The after market ones work perfectly.
