Not as much as my son.
Finally have a clear answer on his ankle and it not the best news for a kid.
A tear to a ligament. Has been told to hang up the boots for the year.
It's a shame as he now has to give up a couple of opportunities that he has worked hard for. A change for a place in the representative squad for the EDFL and the Western Jetts.
I'm going to speak to his local footy clubs coach to see if he can still be part of the team and continue with training at a limited capacity, maybe training with whoever is carrying an injury that week. I think he needs to be there, he seems a little lost.
Speaking to the development coach at the Jetts tonight he gave my son the reassurance that he will be looked at for next year's squad, as long as we keep him up to date with his progress.
It's not the end of the world, but for someone who lives for sports, it's going to take a bit of getting used to.
I've told him to use the next 12 months as an advantage. Get your ankle 100%, work on your fitness and strength. Then next year you'll be fit, strong and have the hunger of 12 months of football that's been burning to get out.
