The only good thing about an 80 series is..... the front end?? Wrong!!, the Engine?? Wrong!! the Full Time 4WD system?? Wrong!! Its the NissanPatrol.com.au stubby holder fitted over the transfer lever.

Bugger of a thing to happen, roofy. It all depends on the condition of the bore, I suppose. But since you would have the motor apart, anyway, you would freshen up as much of the engine as you could.
My advice is: not to follow my advice.

Yeah understandable, if the bore can get away with a hone, that'll be about as cheap as you can get.

I remember seeing something on engine conversions on 4wdtv, they had a mountain (literally)of zd30s on their property, I think it was biders 4x4 or something in Vic. They mite have a complete short block to sell

That would be Readies in Bendigo. He does heaps of conversions so mightt have a few around. You should be giving some serious thought to your options though Roofy, dropping in a TD42 or LS1 should be something you at least cost out bud. Talk with Clint Read about what he can do for you mate.

Alternatively give John Biders a call for a price on a rebuild versus conversion.
