    Check my BILs Willeys
I have to say it, spray painting is an art.
Thats some pretty hardcore competition on the hotrod scene! I definitely dont think my end result will be anything worth writing home about, just want to freshen up the old GQ and keen to go for a new colour scheme. As its an old 4wd I would probably prefer the paint to look a little imperfect anyway... Thats my excuse anyway haha.

Sorry mate I can’t remember how many litres - it goes a long way though. Is there an auto re-sprayer in Broome? I reckon if there is they’d give you a reasonable guess as to how much to buy.
Yeh good idea mate, Ill check out a panel beaters next time I hit town. Im sure theyve seen a few patrols in their time too. I'm gonna miss the never ending pindan battle to be fair. No bluebone out in the desert unfortunately... Bloody tasty fish that one!!

FWIW My patrol got hailed on and it was only 6k total. Thats hail repair and door shut (only the exterior) paint.

Im all for giving things a crack, hell i want to paint some stuff on my missus car, but it is defiantly a very time consuming thing. Allow your self a lot of time. Watch a heap of youtube diy videos on painting.

IMO i wouldnt bother with rattle cans. They are about $50 each and you would need probably, at a guess, 30 cans. I used 2 on 1 front quarter and it wasnt enough.

Grab a semi decent gun with an inline regulator and give your self a heap of time and go for gold. It can be done.

it took 6L of industrial 2pac to do a in and out respray on my mav. i stripped all the bits off it and sanded it back. took out the windows windscreen etc. check out my pics for results
used a lot of sandpaper, and time, was sprayed by a mate who is a spraypainter, going to be painting the rear bar i'm making as well,

setting up the gun right is half the battle when spraying

Supercheap auto can make your paint for you in pressure pack cans. I have used it to do touch ups and a 300 g can was $35. If you do it yourself then you should be able to do it for around a grand.

    Cheers Blocko,

Did Supercheap have a good range of colours? Im living out bush atm, but moving down to Brisbane at the end of the year so might just go through them seems like reasonable prices to do an OK job, not gonna be show class or anything!

Sounds like a massive job that one garett. Did you strip out all interior and repaint the whole shell? Was it rusted out?

Im just going to have to spend a while watching DIY videos, speaking to panelbeaters/painters and just take my time with it all I reckon. Wont be a great job but the colour scheme and condition of my paint right now are just so bad I think even a dodgy DIY job would look much better!

If you're going to strip things out you might want
to look at some sound deadening mat as well[Dynamatt]
What colour you thinking of painting it, white is a easy colour and very forgiving with inperfections
where as black is the enemy and needs to be better than perfect
04 ST 3lt auto, not enough Mods to keep me happy, but getting there

it was 2 or 3 coats of the two pack. got some photos in the members ride section

Wasnt really going to strip out the inside, thats for another rainy day TD... Definitely on my to do list one day as I reckon it would make the car feel like a modern day rig! Colour I want to go with is like a charcoal/dark grey.

Cheers for the help mate, will go search for those pics now! Im just going to go with acrylic as its easier to do in the garage as I read its not as toxic, doesnt need to be baked on and paint is a bit cheaper.
