Good news everyone, in SA that is. The government is changing the regulations on larger tyre sizes being fitted to vehicles.
The law has not been gazetted yet so is not in force but will be some time soon. Got the info from a mate in the RAA.
They are changing the permitted tyre size increase from 15mm larger than the tyre plaque on the car to a 50mm increase in diameter. This will bring SA into line with other states.
There are a few caveats though:
1. Car speed must still be within 10% +/- of the speed displayed on the speedometer for cars built before 2007.
2. Car speed must be below the speed displayed on the speedometer for cars built after 2007 and within 10%.
3. Only off-road vehicles will be covered. They will write up the exact criteria of what an off-road vehicle is but the Patrol is definitely in.
