Andy, further to the PMs I sent,
My computer screen is so stuffed
that I can't get clear pictures of
the TD42 wiring.
I have looked at the Haynes
Manual and on Page 12-18.
It is vague about identifying
which engine it is for.
It shows that the sender has
two wires to the gauge and a
third connection to earth in parallel
to the fuel, oil and temp gauges
via the circuit board.
When you tried the two straight
wires to the tacho, did you
disconnect the original
wires from the
plug to eliminate any fault.
