yep, they don't produce enough heat for long enough for roasting.
Pizzas, breakfast, grilling they may be ok but not roasting.

Are they a cob branded alternative to heat beads?
Been doing Cobb cooking for many years and tried the Cobb green stuff once then back to heat beads.
We only use top quality beads and never have any problems.(don`t use cheap ones)
You may need to experiment to find the right number of beads for different things but once you get it right you will use the Cobb all the time
