You can come and shoot the .270 when ever you like James.
In any moment of decision, the best thing you can do is the right thing, the next best thing is the wrong thing, and the worst thing you can do is nothing.

When I used to go Hunting I had a 22 ,30-30,270 and my favourite Rifle the 22-250.
The 22-250 was the Flattest and most accurate Rifle I have used. Another benefit of this Rifle that I could load according to my requirements. ie
4000fps for Kangaroos and down to 2200fps for Foxes. I have shot a Sambar with this Rifle as I had a rare clear shot with Deer standing in a clear area with his Head raised . Planted him behind the ear and he dropped and did not move.

You'll always be compromising then mate.... I have had many many rifles and currently have .204 as arguably the best fox round at the moment with my 243 as my all rounder and I do not have a deer rifle at present... I have owned about 3 x 30-06 and 2 x 308's with the 30-06 being my favourite of those 2 calibers.
The 223 is probably the best bang for buck if you are buying factory ammo and my 204 is stupidly expensive and I will be reloading that myself soon.
The 22-250 was the Roo shooters rifle of choice for years after the 243 but as the 223 is so cheap to shoot they have mostly gone to that.
I have a .22 a 22/250 and a 7mm Remington magnum.
Hunting is like golf gotta have a club for different shots.
If you're looking for a compromise calibre 25-06 would be the go or a 6.5x55
As for gun makes tikka, Remington are my favourite reasonably priced makes
I'd look at ruger and howa on the cheaper end of the scale
Whoever appeals to the law against his fellow man is either a fool or a coward.
Whoever cannot take care of themselves without that law is both.
For a wounded man shall say to his assailant,
'If I live, I will kill you. If I die, You are forgiven.'
Such is the rule of honour.
Today was a productive day . Got to run in my new browning blr in 358 win. Have owned two marlin lever guns in 30 30 when I was a younger rooster , really liked them . Early signs for this one are good and will be doing handloads for it soonish . It has quick detachable scope rings with a burris four X , 1-4 x 24 german no.4 illuminated reticle scope . So far so good . Nothing like the smell of ''sweets'' to keep you on your toes !
The price of excellence is dicipline , the cost of mediocrity is dissapointment .
