Woof (13th April 2015)
Very cool looking campsite guys!!
OK well I guess this is the bit everyone has been waiting for!! A trip report! I will try not to disappoint & keep it short sweet & to the point!
So everyone met up at KFC in Mundaring at 10am. I was not the last into the carpark I just decided to reverse park than just stick it in a gap!! (Possum) So after a brief introduction to everyone & those who got stuck into a KFC we where off! Down Great Eastern Highway about 5 mins in convoy to the turnoff, another 5 mins up a track & it was time to air down, up until this point sun was out & looking like a cracker day! As soon as we started letting down the 1st tyre the heavens opened up good & true to style as we capped the last tyre it stopped! Now we were wet dirty & only about to start! Clunk led with fish possum myself & Gecko keeping an eye from behind! It didn't take long for Gecko to realise I didn't know WTF I was doing & suggested I follow Clunk very closely keeping a good eye on his lines! At this point it was noticed I was very quiet on the UHF despite me answering all calls! Yup I could hear but not send any comms! Thankfully Clunk had spare handhelds so I was back in the game! 1st rocky hill came trying to follow Clunks line I achieved half way before I had a quick stop & a contemplation of what have I got myself in for! Can I really do this? (Forgot to mention to you readers this is my 1st time 4wd ever!!) So after picking up my balls I picked a line & got up with very few if not any loud bangs!! For me this was the hardest hill I had done it! on we went up & down hills through puddles chickening out of everything that looked like "fun" then came another fun looking hill with a mitsishtty stuck on it!! after a few hours of walking talking Gecko came to the rescue & pulled him up with his winch! Now it was time to be shown how to really drive! Gecko took me for a quick proper lesson down & up probably the toughest route of the toughest hill & what a ball that was!! ( Cheers Gecko!!) By now possum was in full moan! then to shortly after realise a btl of Jacks had smashed!! Apparently we hadn't actually heard him moan until that point!! anyway moving on we reach half way after about 4 hours! up & down a few more hills my confidence was starting to grow taking on some ........ muddy hills & generally being abit more adventurous! (shut up you lot!! I thought I was being adventurous!!) then it came time to find camp!! Well done clunk!! Took us straight there! Yeah right!! about 45 mins driving dodgy as tracks thinking I had finally made it into the club on my first outing of getting pin stripped! (Not to be just yet!) Eventually arrived at camp after a short re group & look at the GPS! Finally found Stropp who had set up his camp started us a fire & had kicked back & looked very relaxed! then the fun & games began! Fish left us there Gecko stayed for a few good hours before eventually heading back to his wife whilst the rest of us sat round the fire drank "TEA" & listened to some very vocal frogs!! Unfortunately all that concentration had worn me out & I was in bed by 10:30! But what a day!!!
Cheers everyone who came! I learnt a lot & cant wait for the next trip!!
Photos to follow!
