I use a EKA Nordic H8 as my go to fox skinner and a good old USMC KA-BAR as a general knife and pig sticker.

Yeah that is what the guys at the show were pointing me at. That style and size.
I was standing there ready to buy and this thread kept bouncing me on the head and I caught myself and left wanting good advice here.
There are knives ranging from $100 to $400 or more and the ones I wS looking at were around the $250 mark! Is that too much? I have no idea

The only good thing about an 80 series is..... the front end?? Wrong!!, the Engine?? Wrong!! the Full Time 4WD system?? Wrong!! Its the NissanPatrol.com.au stubby holder fitted over the transfer lever.

You can get decent fixed blade knives for under $100 that will do the job just as good as a lot of $200-300 knives.
Really need to try a few out to hold and see how they feel for size etc at the shops.
KaBar make good knives and can be pricey but keep an eye on Fleabay and you can get them a lot cheaper than a lot of stores.
The Browning skinner that TD and I have, set me back $13 total and is a great skinner.
Dean at Extreme SAS (sport and survival) in QLD, has great deals on knives that come up regularly covering many well known brands.
Some of the knives I have managed to score on FleaBay have ranged from as little as $3 and as much as $120.

Dont pay anymore that $80 - $90 for a KA-BAR. Local knive shops think they can up the price because it has usmc, us army or us navy embossed and stamped on it.
To be honest, I've done my best skinning with a $20 swiss army knife and surgical scalpel. Take my word and dont try with the KA-BAR, it can be done but its not pretty.
The other knife i have but yet to use is a Buck Vanguard which can be had for $100 - $140 depending on where you go.

TD and I snagged some Buck Vanguards for around $10 each on Fleabay, very good little knife.
Don't count out any of MTech knives, they are a great knife on a budget, very sturdy and can keep an edge well. Different variants may change this but on average they are a good knife for upto $50. They have a combo kit that has a fixed blade, folder and LED torch, all kept in 1 sheath that is pretty well made and gives you knives to choose from when needed.
Will try and take some pics of it tomorrow so you can have a look.

the Buck Vanguard comes in black or white steel
OD makes a great leather sheath to suit it as well
as the stock nylon one lets it down

$10 for a vanguard?
Does the synthetic handle and nylon sheath drive the price down?
My timber handle version comes with a leather sheath.

# MR Gerber do a great field dressing knife , I think George brought one
As for the $10 Vanguard it feels nice and weighty in the hand and holds an edge
thats all I want from my knives and I have heaps, probable the only one
I dis-like the most is the Elk ridge skinner pair , very light in the hand,
pic is on post 2086 the green handled pair
