I showed him those little tripod things you put over the gas burners or the ones for the fire etc. It was an old clunker chugger chugger generator too

Never a fan of gensets when camping , its never been an option for me, happy to say that
with the advent of LEDs my power needs are lower, and never ran out of battery yet.
If you pick to camp when the moon is full especially "outback" you can nearly read by moon light.
Gen sets are old hat if you cant do it with 12v youre not really trying
