Just checked mine - seems ok.

    However - a ‘supplementary question’ .
Whilst I had the airbox lid off I noticed a small hole in the bottom of the airbox, obviously a drain hole. Drain hole on my old bus had one of those squeezy rubber tubes attached to allow water out, but not in, but this is just a hole with nothing to attach a tube to. Does that sound right or is something missing? I’ve sealed it with a course thread tek bolt & rubber washer (from underneath).

It may be a drain hole for the snorkel , to let water out

Surely snorkels would have their own drain point somewhere before the airbox itself wouldn’t they? So does your airbox have a drain hole?
The bottom of the airbox has a raised concentric lip which is outsided of the diameter of the filter. the hole is between this lip & the side of the airbox. Looks to me that the design is to allow a certain amount of water in the box without it getting sucked into the motor. However it has the potential to let water in during a deep water crossing. I guess with it blocked off I’ll just need to remember to check for water in the airbox from time to time.

Never had a good look inside the air box but driving when its flogging down ,
I'd want to water to be able to drain.I've had the water half way up the windscreen
going to Bearii just after the gate on suttons lane {no snorkel} and no water ingress as well.
most snorkel fitters do some thing to the air box what that is I dont know

If you have a snorkel and you get ANY water in your air box - you have a problem somewhere. Usually it gets in via a poor seal either on the airbox or somewhere on the snokel's plumbing, or the hole in the bottom of the air box (that usually has a rubber valve in the ones I have looked at anyway) has not been sealed.

Or - of course - you were in water which was above the snorkel!

As far as I am aware Bill there is only a hole in the GU boxes. When I worked for Donaldson we sold tonnes of those "Vac Valves". But they were primarily for the larger housings. I thought to block that hole but if any water to get in it would no where to go so I left it.

I have an 03 3ltre and it has a hole in the air box (maybe 3mm) with no rubber piece or any way to connect anything to it. It is just a hole, and I have no snorkel
