I have had 10K and 20k services carried out by the Dealer from whom I bought my 2012 Nissan Patrol and the costs seem horrendous.
Have others switched to servicing away from the dealers and what has been your level of satisfaction?

Also I was talking to a guy who had to have his fuel pump replaced and he said the pump alone, not including the fitting was over $3000?
This also seems crazy?!!
Any body else had similar experience?

Pump price is accurate more or less. But yeah service at the stealership is very steep. And what's worse is, some of them do not have a clue at what they're doing.

Mate, you have started several threads here all in the introduction section, the introduction section is just that, to introduce yourself which you have not done as yet.
It seems that all you do is whinge, maybe it is time for you to sell your Patrol and by a landcrab.

I have a GU4 patrol I love it. It's insured but not by RAC. Insurance cost is what I would expect. Dealer service costs are high, but I also have other vehicles (I own a business), and they are no different.
Kia 2500 truck Injector pump quoted by Kia at $3000 + installed. Got one rebuilt from Sydney for $1600 and installed it myself.
Mercedes Vito Gear box replaced. Cost in excess of $6000 and had to wait for it to come from Singapore.

Service costs are through the roof. Its not a Nissan problem, If you don't like your Patrol do what Doggy suggests, but your problems and costs will be the same or worse. IMHO.

Everyone who has a mainstream CRD 4WD has exactly the same experiences.
Doesn't matter who makes them.

When my ZD30 was under warranty (6 Years) I had it serviced by Nissan (capped price).
I could have had it done elsewhere for maybe 30 to 40 percent cheaper.
I didn't go elsewhere because I could simply ring up the local dealer (who I didn't even buy it off) and have every issue dealt with as they new the vehicle.
They fought Nissan on a couple of things and won and they also changed some equipment purely on suspicion no questions asked.

I did have to kick some rrse a couple of times on things they missed or balls'd up but overall I reckon I came out in front by a fair margin.

About posting in the wrong place. I am somewhat adavanced in years, and a little technologically challenged with computers.
As for the vehicle I drove a 1996 Patrol from new, it had proper steel panels, steel bumpers was very fuel efficient and totally reliable.

I am extremely disappointed in my 2012 model, but maybe all current 4WD have plastic bumpers, flares over the wheels that fall off when you look at them, and guzzle gas. I did not even consider another vehicle when I replaced my old Nissan. I will post in the correct place in the future

As you can see the mods will move any threads that need it.

I kind of understand where you are coming from but perhaps if you post up asking what others have done to address any percieved shortcomings you will end up loving this truck as well.

I would be very suprised if this vehicle wasn't more comfortable and a better drive than your GQ for starters.
As for steel bumpers, non CRD engines, live axle etc, etc, then I am afraid there is nothing out there to consider

Personally I think it depends on the dealership. I use a local mechanic that knows patrols and is excellent on price and service.

I used to use a dealer when I had my ZD30 but they stuffed up on a number of occasions and didn't acknowledge it when pointed out.

Also I do m y own interim services to keep costs down and get my mechanic to do a major one every 25k to make sure all my running gear is in good shape.

I agree it is down to the dealer or mechanic when it come to service quality and price. When living in FNQ price difference between Cairns & Innisfail dealerships for book service was $300 for my D22 Navara. Also Innisfail Nissan being cheaper also had far better customer service. I could not fault their work. Nissan at Gladstone CQ have been very good to date with my 2013 Y61 and their new vehicle fixed prices compared to some non genuine mechanics used in T'Ville are actually $150 - $200 cheaper for minor services. Also had a mate getting his Patrol & work Navara service by non genuine who was obviously not even changing the engine oil but charging like a wounded bull for the lack of service, so is good to ask around.
