I honestly cannot fault mine. Unless it squeals under tension, then I guess it was worth it. But once i got it off, it seemed ok, spinning the bearing, produces no sound and seems very smooth. Will find out tomorrow morning I guess.

Well, good news! New tensioner, no more squealing in the morning. Will keep the old one, and order a new bearing, leave it as a spare.

Roofy gave me this part number for the bearing in the tensioner
    NTN-WC 87503.
I brought a new tensioner and will swap out the bearing asap and
leave the assembly in the Patrol along with some tools
04 ST 3lt auto, not enough Mods to keep me happy, but getting there

A good out come then when you pull out the bearing you
will see how dry it is and might have fine dust as well

I had the same issue with mine, I replaced the tensioner and the belt and it still did itr, I did a bit of searching on Google and found that the bearings in the clutch of the air cond compressor dry out over time and that is the problem, try turning the air cond on and off and see if it goes away.
One explanation was that the compressor is mounted low so if you go through water it is one of the first things that gets wet, it would probably cop a bit of water from the front tyre on a wet day also.
I sprayed some CRC into the clutch area of the compressor (try not to get it on the belt or pulley's) and it went away, it does come back after a while...

Yeah I change the a/c idler bearing last year, it's just started again to rattle away. So I pulled it down again and cleaned it up and jammed some decent grease in the bearing and is good so far. I do keep a spare bearing for it now. What a PIA of a job to remove too.
