The usual leaky front axle seal question........

    Hey fellas,

just wondering if anyone knows of an offset seal, thats available, and is available in Australia? I know they exist,Lol! Just cant find one here. Has anyone bought a seal from -maybe- a bearing company (CBC-SKF etc)? I have a really healthy groove in both bloody axles.D'oh!
I have replaced 3 seals so far, the last one was a genuine Nissan seal too. Still didnt fix it, so I'm looking for some kind of offset, or maybe a double lipped seal. Just dont know where to look. I cbf fitting a Speedi-Sleeve, just yet. Might have to, but thought I'd look for a different seal first. (Its easier!)

    Thanks fellas

If you can't find something I would swap out the CV and Axle on both sides if you have the groove in both. Surely only one side though? If you can't find the seal you need then swap out the damaged axle and CV. Easy and for a GQ a dime a dozen.

The only good thing about an 80 series is..... the front end?? Wrong!!, the Engine?? Wrong!! the Full Time 4WD system?? Wrong!! Its the NissanPatrol.com.au stubby holder fitted over the transfer lever.

Have you heard of a speedy sleeve?? It may be an alternative to running and offset seal (I've never heard of an offset seal tho)

Speedie sleeves are great but, trying to get on of those down onto the axle shaft, and straight too would be a task in itself.

Not if you have a length of pipe to use to guid it down. Sch 10 pipe has a 5mm thick side wall it will be good to use as a guide

Yeah, its both sides! Beats me how- but -their it is. Didnt really want to do the SpeediSleeve thing, if I can help it,but might have to yet. I saw a really good HD seal on a US site, but cant bloody find it now. Might take one of the old seals to a bearing shop, and see what they suggest. just arent many in the Riverland. If anyone sees that site, let me know! LOL!

Yeah if it's both sides your going to have to strip them to get to the seal regardless. Why stuff around with refitting an axle that has damage. I would not even be hesitating mate. Swap them out. Even if you pay Top Dollar they won't cost you more than $100 a side for an Axle and Viable CV. You will likely find the. As cheap as $25 a side these days. As and Cv swap in a heart beat.

There is a very good chance that what ever caused that type of damage has so compromised your CVs and it's better to swap. IMO. I have had an Axle break at that spot before and it was a bugger of a thing to swap out in the bush.

If you still think your CVs are OK then wrap them in a plastic bag and keep them as an emergency spare. Mutton into Lamb is a dream mate. They are Knackered and cheap.
