Odd bit I find; is that I see lots of people driving around with their fishing rod holders on the bull bar, no rods and this is essentially non compliant, but Mr Plod seems to turn a blind eye to it. The rod holders protrude forward of the bull bar.
I don't see why people get there back up about rod holders..
if your going to get hit by a 4x4 with a bull bar your going to get messed up rod holder or not

I have seen some photos of a person hit by one of those. Tore open the abdomen. Guy was lucky to survive a relatively minor hit in other ways. The reason I personally hate them is you see many of them exposed to the front of the bar. In fact, I cannot see any reason to keep them on the bar when not in use

Unfortunately I suspect the legitimacy of your argument would hinge on the interpretation of the phrase ‘first manufactured after’. I’m betting this date will relate to the date on the compliance plate regardless of the logic of your argument. Of course it is possible that your particular Constable Plod may have a brain & be willing to exercise it, but if you cop (pun intended) the usual ‘just following orders’ model of plod I don’t fancy your chances.

I think you could be on the money but my motto is never go down without a fight.
In my case having a Series 1 GU should help and I am hoping a custodian of the Law as she is writ will probably take one look at all the engineering mod plates rivetted to the firewall and think it is all too hard anyway and just tell me to bugger off.
Dolphins are so smart that within a few weeks of captivity, they can train people to stand on the very edge of the pool and throw them fish.

Yeh a general cop sure, if you are nice about it all (and pass the attitude test) you will normally be OK, but transport inspectors, these guys are often out for blood, and think they know all the rules, I say "think", because they don't always know the rules they are enforcing.
Keeping paper copies of the rules that relate to your modifications/car in the glovebox, at least give you factual ammo to defend yourself on the side of the road, I believe this is by far the best way to politely bore anyone into retreating.
In QLD there is NO mod plate code for bull bars, a bulbar on series 1 GU with airbags has to comply with ADR 00/69 (and must display a sticker to say it does), but people overlook the fact they must also comply to all the other ADRs and rules, including the NCOP (National Code of Practice) and Australian Standards, this is where we get caught out.
For us lucky folks in QLD, driving a illegally modified vehicle not complying with prescribed sections of the vehicle standards and safety, "is", in the eyes of our excellent law, a Type 2 offence, and so is categorised just as serious as "high" range drink driving (0.15% and over), or exceeding the speed limit by "more" than 40km/h.
Yes that right, so drive without mudflaps and its a Type 2 offence, don't believe me.......

You need to research more into it Troy and you may change your view, we need to start educating people more on this subject, and change this perception about bull bars, that it does not matter about anything pointing forward of a bull bar, because the person you hit is screwed when the bar and 2.5T of 4x4 hits them anyway.
The same could be said about a collision between a person and any vehicle, regardless of having a bull bar or not, a person pretty much will always come off worse than the vehicle, the difference between the person surviving the collision, and death, can be as simple as where they first hit their head, a persons body hit in the lower section (bumper bar to leg) will most likely end up rolling over a bonnet, and may have their head hit the "softer" centre of a bonnet first, plus they now roll over the car.
Some bull bars change the front profile of a car to be more square like, and so will tend to "catch" and so force the pedestrians body to absorb more of the full impact of the collision, a correctly designed bull bar may still allow the pedestrian to travel over the front of the vehicle, but now add to this, those 4 bits of metal tube that protrude forward and downward (a fishing rod holder), and you can understand how you have installed a potential "body spear" skin scraper, that will skewer a human body with ease, and either retain their body on the front of your car, or rip them open as they travel past.
Its not hard to get a grasp on it, just stand in front of your car, and walk into it with your eyes closed ,and then imagine the same impact but at speed, I bet the rod holders will hurt a lot more than just the bull bar, even at walking pace.
Its very easy to just say, that pretty much anyone who ends up hit by the front of your car, is most likely in that situation due to their "own" fault, and so why should you/anyone care, e.g..... don't walk out on the road in front of me and we won't have a problem, but just think how you or your wife would feel knowing someone died on the front of your car (even if it was their own fault) because of injuries sustained directly from your fishing rod holder, and that they "may" have survived if they were not fitted ?
We are lucky bull bars and fishing rod holders are not just banned all together going by the other stupid rules we get lumped with in QLD, but we all need to get our head out of the sand on this one, and realise that simple decisions we make, could actually one day, give someone who makes a mistake, a better fighting chance at life, it could be one of us as a old person, or one our kids.

Yeah, AFAIK there is no mod plates for bars in any of the states but I have several plates on my rig for the engine and cabin conversions and it is a Series 1 with no airbags so that helps as well.
I think the mermaids up your way are born with a couple of extra "cranky genes" then bitch slapped every day to end up with the desired corporate mindset.
In all my travels the Qld inspectors have easily the most... uuuummmm... non negotiable attitude shall we say.

Haha, good way to put it ET, to give everyone a prime example of what we face here sometimes, my mate who is a truck driver, actually got fined for writing "QLD" in his log book instead of "Queeensland"
