    Might it possibly have something to do with the O2 sensor, had a similar problem when i had the Xtrail ( hey at least it was a Nissan hahahahaha)

    It is possible but I'd like to see what codes are in the system first.

    How can i get the fault codes? Im assuming specialist equipment is involved.

    Most likely yes, you will have to take it to someone with the right diagnostic scan tool. There may be a way to manually extract the fault codes but it's a Toyota so I have no idea how it would be done.

    My falcon had a problem exactly as you describe.

    What was happening was the MAP sensor was not functioning and the engine was thinking that the car was running too lean so it would tip in more fuel, then the o2 sensor was saying it was running too rich so it'd back off on the fuel after a couple of seconds.

    Maybe I have it the other way around, but you get the point. Two components with differing opinions about the fuel air mix. One was wrong.

    Check if you have a vacuum hose loose as well.
