Jeezus cobber... they are $100 cheaper at Prestige Communications and free express delivery

Prestige would be the top comms dealer in Oz I reckon.
I've been using them for 10 years for work or reccy gear.

Have you got an antenna? If not, I highly recommend this to go with your receiver (choose black if it is going on a bull bar)...

Dolphins are so smart that within a few weeks of captivity, they can train people to stand on the very edge of the pool and throw them fish.

Have a look at Icom Ic400 Pro or IC440n. they are very robust.

X2 delivery has always been prompt, a couple of business days to Canberra being the average. Of the 6 or so UHFs I have bought from them over the years I would have saved hundreds. Can't recommend highly enough, I have used GMEs with no problems.

First off you'll want a 5watt unit I have an Icom 440 with all the info on the hand piece, the main unit is secured under the
dash and out of sight, I've found this a very good unit, I don't use all the functions as all I need it for is convoy work
or to pick up another UHF I have in my camper as a home base.
Not convinced you need 80 channels ATS

I also have an tx6500 GME hand held
and an another Icom jr for track work and around camp if required

And buy a decent antenna to suit

    Thanks for the input guys.

So what will a GME or ICOM give me that a uniden won't?

Is it just quality or is there a feature set as well?

    Quality, yes
    Extra features, not really
    Performance, a qualified no

Radio performance is 90% about your antenna/s.
Uniden are an OK brand, not as good as some, better than many others.
If you have a good antenna most people will never know the difference.
If you have a poor antenna then it doesn't matter how good the radio is, it will still be crap.
Dolphins are so smart that within a few weeks of captivity, they can train people to stand on the very edge of the pool and throw them fish.
