    Squealing from front end

Was away over easter and had some strange noises come from the front end. The first time I'm pretty sure was just dirty brakes. There was squealing but it slowly got better and after i pulled the wheel off and gave the brakes a good clean it stopped completely. Its the second time it squealed that concerns me. I was in 4wd and had been driving in sand and gone through a couple of small washouts with a bit of muddy water in them then while going up a small sand hill there it started squealing quite badly. I stopped and took it out of 4wd but left hubs locked and the noise stopped. I continued in 2wd for a while then put it back in 4wd and the noise was gone. If anyone has got any ideas on what this might be that would be very helpful.

im being way of base here but check your belt tensioner bearing
cant see why your brakes would squeal going up hill if not used

Just to clarify there were two separate times where i had a squealing noise the first i'm fairly certain was brakes as it stopped when i cleaned them. The second time i think is unrelated to the first. It squealed very loud but stopped when put in 2wd so I dont think it is related to brakes unless it was something in the brakes that fell out when i stopped to put in 2wd. Fairly certain its not a belt as it was a squealing brake noise not a slipping belt and a belt would continue to make noise regardless if it was in 4wd or 2wd.
