Pretty much, same applies with stamping of the belts. About $500 for the roller plus $X each for the dies.

That leather is about 1-2mm thick, not sure how it would go for a sheath unless it was applied on top of another piece but may be able to use it as the front piece of a sheath

Wifey wants me to make her a bag out of it lol

In a sense Roo leather is a lot more expensive but a lot stronger than cow hide.

To get a sheet of roo leather around 3-4mm thick would be several $100's which in turn would make say a bowie knife sheath around $80-90 per basic sheath once completed.

The croc print bowie sheath depending on how I use a backing on it would probably be similar in price where as a straight cow hide sheath would be around $35-50 depending on what was included on it.

Pocket knife sheath would be around $20-35 depending on style as I have 2 different cross draw styles and a pancake style with adjustable press studs in case you chose to use the same sheath with different sized knives up to 3 1/2 possibly 4 inches in size closed.

My knife finally arrived! As is typical, the afternoon before I fly out so haven't got a photo but, by thunder, it's a beauty! I see what you mean 3D. The blade is a nice weight and feel. The scales need a little bit of a touch up as they sit proud of the handle and catch on the fingers so will fix that in due course.

Speaking about survival knives, even though the tantos never made the list, I still reckon you could make a tanto blade survival knife. Just a wider, heavier blade with serrated back edge and hollow handle....

Which brings me to my next suggestion.... how about a wee competition to see who can come up with the best design, judged by members or a select panel.

I think the guidelines 3D outlined are perfect place to start...

I will even put up a bottle of Bourbon as a prize (if I am allowed to do that AB)

    What say you?
