whats the normal heat range?and the warning range in degree for zd30 egt temp?
correction..in celciusmy bad
what if i place the egt probe directly at exhaust manifold before the turbo?will it melt the adapter?
I think 150mm is so the air has time to settle, but temps won't drop much in that distance.
The turbo adds a bit of heat to so yes post turbo is the way

evil twin..any picture on where the pre turbo location for the probe..since i havent install the ext manifold yet..
Hiya Westy
The Turbo harnesses the high temp exghaust gas and drops the temp, it doesn't add any.
By how much is quite variable and usually guesstimated to be 150 to 200 C IE 750 deg combustion temps pre turbo will show as 550 to 600 post Turbo
In the ZD30 factory turbo to err on the safe side we accept it to be 200 and don't want to exceed 750 momentary or 700 prolonged.
Soooo, if it a post turbo EGT (within 150mm of the outlet) shows 500 it is assumed the peak temps are heading towards 700.
This means that you can actually be exceeding the safe temp or not using the full amount of power available depending on individual installations, engines, Turbo efficiency etc.
I have no pic's but Google should find you some.
I think some people have used the EGR close to #3 on the ZD30's
Dolphins are so smart that within a few weeks of captivity, they can train people to stand on the very edge of the pool and throw them fish.
so the actual warning zone is at 550-600 deg post turbo?
Mine is a CRD which anecdotally seem to run a little hotter than the Di.
I look for another gear at 500 and back off at 550 degrees indicated "post turbo".
IMHO that is definitely less than the ECU will run the engine at in a factory truck so should be low enought to prevent any damage due to eces combustion temps caused by the modd's I have done.
Others may disagree which is OK, it's just what I do.
