Smile Me, myself and my Y61

    Hello guys,

My name is Sorin and I am from Romania. I own a 1998 Nissan Patrol Y61 RD28TD that, for the moment, is not too much modified.

I will try to create a separate topic where I will present a little bit the history of my car.

    Best regards,
    Sorin

P.S. Don't get fooled by my nickname - I am not a kibitzer... most of the time what I say makes sense

    My car's history

As promissed I will try to present my car's history a bit.

The small improvements I did to my car were to put a set of 33 inch mud/terrain tires (COOPER STT), a President JFK II CB radio and a SIRIO 5000 CB antenna.

The colleauges from Holland will notice that the car is bought from there, by looking at the plates . It is a two seater, because it was converted to a utility van before I bought it (I want it this way because the taxes are smaller in Romania).

This is how the car looked liked when I bought it (about two years ago):

    The new tires:
    tires_3.JPGtires_2.JPGtires_1.JPG

I worked a little bit to make room for the CB as it was a little bit longer than expected:

    New IronMan steering dumper:

    More to come...

Thank you kevin07! Glad to be here. I was reading the forum for some time now but I didn't had an accout. Today I decided to join and I'm glad I did.
I also use a Romanian forum that is a little more general (4x4 and offroad), but this one, as I see, is dedicated to Nissan Patrol which is the car I own.

My car's history - roof off

Next thing I did was to take down the roof as I intended to buy a new suspension lift kit and the car wouldn't fit anymore in my garrage.
The roof for the utility vans is modified (I believe because they must have a certain load capacity). The modification consists of installing a fiberglass roof on top of the existing one, which is cut to make more room.

I started by dissasembilng the side panels for rear windows:
    side_panels.jpg

I dissasembled then the roof light support, the temperature and heading indicator from the front of the roof, the rearwivew mirror and other small things that were attached to the roof. I coud then take down the roof lining/cover (hope this makes sense - my english is not so good especially with technical terms).

    roof_1.jpgroof_2.jpgroof_3.jpg

Thext on the list was the roof window (it is a bit heavy 10-12 Kilos):
    roof_window.jpg

Next part was a little bit hard to persuade to come off as it was glued vey well to/through the original roof (fitted throgugh the hole):
    roof_4.jpgroof_6.jpgroof_5.jpg

Here it is how it looked like after taking it down:
    roof_7.jpgroof_8.jpgroof_9.jpgrear_windows_1.jpg

Next sep was to take down the external fiberglass roof; it was relatively easy to cut. Unfortunatelly I have no pictures with that operation.
I bought a piece of the metal rooftop from some guy who disassembles old/crashed cars and weld it over the hole in the original roof.

    To be continued...

Thank you for the warm wellcome!
I would like to read the forum a little bit more before asking questions. Maybe I'll find some answers myself and not ask waht was already asked and answered.

Sorin, I have copied your photo's across to a new members ride thread I created for you: http://www.nissanpatrol.com.au/forum...-car-s-history

Can you add future photo posts of you car to that thread please, I will leave these ones here

Sorry can't work out how to get rid of the attachment pics at the bottom off post without destroying it in the new thread

    Cheers

    Todd
