Why it's a good idea to throw your eye around the engine bay once in a while

Servicing the mighty Mav for the long weekend excursion when I came across this:

Cant help but think how much "fun" that would have been if it'd come apart out bush somewhere...

At least the hub is OK those fans are not cheap either, well tojo ones.
I have new Tojo fan and think cost was $110 a few years back now

Yea mine was the same. 23 years old though so had a good life.

@ AF I'd be drilling those "U"bolts and use some wire to safety lock wire them

preventative matainance.....yep a wonderful thing.While doing my tapper cover gasket and looking around on the weekend I was lucky enough to find a worn patch in a heater hose....could have been interesting as we are going away next weekend..

Ordinary mate, very ordinary. Unfortunately running out of time to fix em all up, so I'm going to buy a few metres of hose in various sizes to chuck in the car just in case.

well i had a lucky find... i parked my GU across the drive way, which i never do as i normally park on the grass when i am home, and when i walked out there i noticed a "damp"
spot under the car.
had a look and realized that there was oil leaking from under the sump..
took the car around to me shed, tarp on the ground for me to lay on. slid under and put my hands on to the sump plug. you guessed it, about a 1/4 turn and it came off...
lucky for quick reflexes i caught it and shoved it back on before i lost to much oil.
so happy that i spotted this as a couple of days later ( today ) i had to drive to perth ( 600k trip from where i live )
would not have been happy if it fell off during the trip ( oh i do give my car a good look over before i leave each time ).
worse could have happened as when i went home i took a back way to check out some tracks and possible over night staying spots...
so i will be having a chat to my friendly mechanic next time i see him.....

Be aware that the tb42s (carby) and the efi version use a different fan - not interchangeable the inner is a different size
