under normal driving conditions you wouldn't get the turbo hot enough would you and a 2 min idle down would be all that's needed,
unless you drive and get the thing glowing things might be different .
As for MD that was the story going around, someone mentioned it on a previous thread
04 ST 3lt auto, not enough Mods to keep me happy, but getting there

I have mine set at 30sec and find that is good enough for most cool downs unless like said before I have been stretching my calf muscle to get up a hill or something.

For the wiring I tapped into the ignition perm live and the acc output to the timer and yes I also had to tap into the hand brake.

Sorry mate I can't remember exactly but if you expose the wiring lume behind your ignition barrel and get a test light or multi meter. The wire that gets a reading on the multi meter/test light with nothing on is the perm live, then what you do is turn on the ignition (don't have to start the car) and the one that now gets a reading is the acc live, double check by turning the ignition off to see if it turns off.

I don't know how useful or valuable a timer is except that I fitted one (1 3 or 5 minutes) when I fitted the oil cooled schwitzer in about 1990 and have not had to touch the turbo since and the 1 minute setting is always used unless I have been towing the boat (about 2.3 tonnes) and then 5 minutes is used.

Do they work? Who knows, I would have had to fit up the same set up (GQ 4.2) without one to do a test and my injector pump specialist urged me to fit one along with an oil cooler when the turbo kit was fitted.

How much do you save by not fitting one? How much do you need to spend if issues arise ?

Some short term saving are just not worth it, extreme eg no condom leads to aids , cost of timer cf to turbo set up and possible repairs?

    Cheers

    Thomas,

If you have an Auto, then by all means fit yours.

I am not a big fan of a turbo timer in a manual, as you can't leave it in gear .... the thing is usually in a Patrol the handbrake actually works, unlike a Landcruiser ... , but still I prefer to leave it in gear.

I just sit for a few seconds normally in the car before switching off around town, and if I am on the highway, just cruise down for the last couple of K's before stopping, and then sit for 30 seconds or so...

I have a manual and yeah the handbrake is awesome compared to my old mans Prado lol the main this first is to chip it to bring the torque up towed a little box trailer with a boat on it (tinny) and the big beast struggled
