Nah mate, the banjo filter is in the lift pump, fuel is actually filtered here before the canister filter so it can get very dirty.Originally Posted by Ferret
The lift pump is located near the front of the block, below the fuel pump, there is a hand primer on it.
Come to think of it, the seals in the lift pump commonly fail, so it could also be sucking a small amount of air in from here.

My hand primer when I pump this it leaks so maybe were heading the right direction .... keep the info coming so good to have abit more knowledge on these cars as its gonna be a keeper for a long time .... thanks guys

When you say your hand primer pump leaks, are you saying it leaks a bit of fuel out when you pump the primer? Sounds like that could be your issue as I'm guessing it would also work in reverse and introduce air to your fuel line when the engine is running.
Also, although I am by no means an expert in this, on my boat, when the breather lines off the main tank were blocked, it created a vacuum in the tank and starved the engine somewhat. I first noticed a bit of a 'gasp' when opening the filler cap as opposed to that 'push' out of air that is more normal with expansion of vapour. As it turned out, both my breather lines had been kinked and as they deteriorated over time, they softened and the kink blocked the air that would have equalised the tanks.
Got me wondering where the breather lines are now. Do they exit up near the filler cap somewhere near the Aux tank pump inlet?

yes but there should be another breather off the top of the tank. there should be an inspection plate in the rear of your vehicle if its a shorty then under the rear seats there should be a plate about the size of a saucer with 4-6 bolts or screws in it take that off and you'll be able to get to the fuel gauge sender and the breather lines.

Thats strange I have a shorty and I dont have that plate under the seats iv taken mine out and its ready for marine carpet ... last time I done the fuel sender and I had to take the tank out ... and the pics of that motor has diffrent similarities like the fuel filer housing is to the rear next to the fire wall

There is no inspection plate in an MQ or MK shorty.... Unfortunately to get to anything on top of the tank you have to drop it out.
