Push away so you don't get that burr on the cutting edge, I also use Brasso and wet and Dry then polish.
just etched a knife after using those whet stones, you should be able to see how the softer steel is etched leaving
    the harder steel

Have been reading mixed versions of sharpening, with and against grain of the blade. With bur and without bur.

Best finish still seems to be from using a strop though. Will try and find it but 1 guy fiinishes off by using a sheet if glass

Dad used to re finish his razor blades on the inside of a glass cup.
Glass is flat and not many use a strop these days, except all my old teachers.
Reckon growler may have copped a few too, sorry mate lol.
Strop removes the burr and polishes it a little IMO

i was taught the same but i found in the end i was digging a hole in the middle of my stone. straight forward and backward motions is the trick and make sure you use both edges of the stoneif you understand my meaning

Had a ringer on a bush job years ago who carried a small stone with him and every night he unfolded his buck and did two passes
one forward and one return, all night he would do that. He is like me and try to remove the shoulders so the knife is basically a big wedge, My butcher knives are like this
and bloody sharp as. "cause we all know accidents only happen with dull knives' Doesn't explain why I always cut my self though. lol
Crap steel wont hold an edge and never will. I think 27 degrees is what they say, but 27 degree is found on heaps of things, Baja Claw eg

most blades are edged at roughly 23 degrees, some right down to 15 and even 10 degress but it will depend on whether it is a bevelled edge or accute edge

Stropp, that is an awesome knife.

I have just ordered a new sharpening kit that adjust from 10-27 degress depending on blade type with 400, 800, 1k and 1500 grit stones and a 10k wetstone as well for finishing

Thx Jason, wasn't sure but it certainly looks good and has a reasonable scabbard but it doesn't feel super sharp but that may be because of my cooking knives that I keep very sharp. I should say the front of the blade is not that sharp, from where it curves that is very very sharp.
