Pulled my winch apart to find water in it..... been sometime since I have been in water that deep.
All the gears are soaking in petrol and I will re-grease and put back together tomorrow.
Only reason I pulled the winch off the car was I snapped the bolt that holds the rope on the drum and needed to thread it through.. lucky!!!
I used silicon to make an extra seal on the ends of the winch drum. I used a layer of glad wrap to stop the silicon from sticking to the drum. When it was all dry, I packed the new space full of marine grade grease. So far it has worked well, even with the water level up to the bonnet.
My advice is: not to follow my advice.

It is pretty cool Down this way but still hot enough to hide inside or in the pool at the in laws with a few bevies
