    It doesn't.
    The theory is that an anode splits the water into hydrogen and oxygen and the are then fed into the engine, they both burn and reconnect into water and exit the exhaust. The theory is accurate, BUT it is perpetual motion. The energy to split the water is more than the energy it produces when combusted (after losses).
    If it was thus simple to produce more power then all the manufacturers would have hydrogen generator cells!

    A hydrogen car is possible, but the hydrogen is produced on an industrial scale and the brought to the vehicle and combusted with atmospheric oxygen.

    Yep, this is how it works, you buy it, play around with it for a while, then ultimately, you end up using the fuse and wire to hook up your new spotlights one day, and you find your wife already stole the glass jar to store pickles in.
