Wary about buying 2003 GU III

This afternoon I did test drive a 2003 GU III, 3L Diesel, automatic, Kms190400, nice, clean car, Run well, Price $21000. But I am wary about problems that the motor may have later on. Is it wise to buy this car ?

Like I said earlier, check out the threads about NADS (Nissan Anti detonation system), it will help to safe guard against the symptoms that cause the problems.

$21,000 seems to be a bit rich for a 03 model. Autos in patrtols need to be reco'd at about 250, if not earlier. Like said previously, check for nads as well as all the normal things.

Interested to hear why the auto would need to be reconditioned at around 250 k

Couldnt give technical data as im not a mechanic, but they tend to have issues around then, mine did and it cost me a lot of money. I think mine went at 255,000

No worries, was just curious is all. Just wondering if it's down to lack of maintenance or something, or if it was an inherent issue with a particular type of auto, or all of them.

All good bloke. I would say its a combination of the 2 (maintenance and design). As with everything, not every product will last as long as similar products that do the same job. If from new i you looked after your auto i have no doubt it will last for ages, but people often neglect it and well it fails eventually, so i found out the hard way. (bought the car second hand)

In an attempt to feed your curiosity, mine failed because the torque converter bearing collapsed and destroyed the tc and blocked up the oil cooler, melting nearly the entire inside of the case.

I think auto's in general don't have a very long life before a rebuild is needed, regardless of model!

Also the Auto's had a lower towing capacity, think it was around 2500kg braked from memory. As for the 03 3.0ltr - hit n miss I guess. do all the mods listed in here but I know mine went pop not long after I bought it. $21k is a lot too. I didn't pay that for mine when I bought it 5 years ago but I had 250000km on the clock when I got it.

    For $21k you could find a 4.2 - I got my 99 GU 4.2 for $19k with 268000 on the clock.
Seemed like a good idea at the time
