Dandos is only around 45 mins from Geelong, best free camp in the area as it's looked after by the 4wd club. We won't be camping because we only live near Waurn ponds.
There are some good tracks in Bambra - logging tracks. Can be really challenging.
Would love to do big hill track though - we never did it with our old Pajero and when we changed to a Delica it was too challenging. Now we have the Troll it would be great to have a crack.
We have the Meridian Otways map - worth getting to see what's around.
    We're up for anything though.
Bringing the kids - hope that's okay.

    Hi Emm,

Your more than welcome to come along and your kids will have plenty of company. How old are they?

I reckon you'd be doing real well to make Dandos in 45 minutes though! Even from Waurn Ponds your still 30+ minutes to Colac before you head south. I'd still say - 1.5hours on a good day to Dandos. RLI are you keen for a 1.5 hour drive to meet the guys?

What club are you a mmber of Emm? Does your club look after Dandos? Camp Host or something?

When did you try and do Big Hill track Emm? I cleared that track for seasonal opening last year and reckon I could have done it in the wife's Volvo! I think it has been graded from memory. Sorry. Happy to stick our head up maybe but it will be a cake walk unfortunately.
    Its a Nissan! =====> Its a Keeper!! ....... Got a TD42 in it BONUS!! ....... I'm a lucky bugger! I've got 2 of em!

The only good thing about an 80 series is..... the front end?? Wrong!!, the Engine?? Wrong!! the Full Time 4WD system?? Wrong!! Its the NissanPatrol.com.au stubby holder fitted over the transfer lever.

    G'day MR,

    Not a problem mate!

As previously mentioned, if i cannot drive, i will have either my dad or father in-law driving for me.

PS, just waiting for pathology results on my blood tests regarding what the outcomes are regarding my medication intake!

    Regards,

    Paul

Hi, we wanted to do Big Hill track three years ago when we came back from our trip around Australia but people told us our Delica would never make it...
Might have a drive there this weekend then! :-)
When we went to Dandos I thought we went through Forrest, it was a while ago so I could be wrong about the time. Colac is about 50 mins - we never head that way when going to the otways, always through Forrest.
From memory it was the Geelong 4x4 club that were caretakers, but again I could be proven wrong about that also!
Not a member of any club, only the Geelong Field and Game.
    Kids are 3 boys: 14, 12 and 7 and a 10 year old girl.
    Camping sounds good! :-)

    Hi Emm,

I have just got home and reviewed the Map. Dandos is halfway between Gellibrand and Forrest on off Lardners Rd / Gellibrand Rd. There may be a little time saved heading down via Forrest, not much though mate. The easiest drive would be via Colac for sure. If you took Cape Otway Road you could maybe save 20 minutes but miss the opportunity to Fuel up in Colac.

Now lets talk Big Hill Track. Big Hill track is Miles away from Dandos mate, its at the other end of the Otways Ranges nearly and is off Deans Marsh Road. The top of Big Hill track junctions Deans Marsh road at the end of Mt Sabine rd also which is considered an "Iconic 4WD Track" OMG! what a disgrace! I could definitely do that in Naomi's Volvo wagon for sure!

I can certainly think of plenty of tracks that will be more fun that Big Hill track mate, i think you will be very disappointed when you get down there this weekend! most of the tracks to the East side of Deans Marsh rd are Easy in my opinion, nothing even gets to Medium there mate.

I will get down there in the next month and check out some tracks so we dont waste our time and still have some good catchup time too.

So if everyone is happy Dandos is the spot then. Paul is fine to travel so Dandos it is. It is a Public space and could have many campers there. there is a Drop toilet that may or may not be clean and f we can have a fire then we will need to bring bagged wood as finding good wood to burn could be a challenge.

Although it would be great i can assure you Emm that the Geelong 4WD Club does Not look after Dandos Camp ground in any way. They have not done a Camp Host there for at least 5 years and do not provide any form of management service to that area. Dandos is in the Otways Forrest Park and is therefore managed by Parks Victoria who do a great job as long as Victoria is not on Fire.

As Emm stated the Maridian Touring Map "The Otways 4WD Map" is by far the best map of the area.

Emm i have an 8 year old Boy and a 2.5 yo little girl. Bring the tribe.

    Hello All,

Caught up with Paul on the phone earlier today and he's keen to make this meetup, he's got a few prospective drivers to take him if needed.
Just need to be aware that due to Pauls condition he may/will need access to more than basic toilet facilities (I'm sure he can be more specific). My wife also has a medical condition and she likes reasonable facilities but is happy to stay home if not available.
    Cheers
    Jack

Like what someone mentioned earlier. I am more then happy for a meet up to talk bollocks with each other in a park and stay close to civilisation if need be gents.

I'm sure most of us agree that meeting Paul and others is the main aim here.
