Does blow by really need to be returned to the engine?

Doing an airbox upgrade and havent really got anywhere to return the blow by back into the pre turbo piping on a TD42t. Does it really need to get put back into the combustion process or is it just for emissions control?
GU with a few bits and pieces.....

Legally... yes. Like you said it's just emissions control. Mine is vented to atmosphere through a catch can.

The only good thing about an 80 series is..... the front end?? Wrong!!, the Engine?? Wrong!! the Full Time 4WD system?? Wrong!! Its the NissanPatrol.com.au stubby holder fitted over the transfer lever.

This is why I ride in the tyre tracks and not centre lane on road on my drz400 riding on knobbies is hard enough let alone in the wet with oil spray

blow by is just EGR right? I don't like the idea of it either but can you get a catch can that looks professional and like a factory fit so as to pass a quick roadside inspection and not get pinged?
