Maybe unfortunately they didn't know the laws regarding contractors

After having 6 weeks off work I am now at the airport waiting to go back.
This time is worse than usual leaving the new baby for the first time but ya gotta do what ya gotta do hey.
On a happier note I am looking forward to the first full nights sleep in 4 weeks.

I'm up to day 3...denial...lol
I think this will be a similar situation as us contracting in the IT industry. I would be surprised if what they have done is illegal from their side. Just means you have tax responsibilities as if you were employed. So I'm guessing it was your responsibility to pay the Tax Office because you were using the ABN etc.
The Tax Office don't seem to care as much about the contractual/legal obligations between the two of you, just that they are getting the tax. It was to try and cut down on claims like income splitting. Having a work relationship as an employee but making claims like a business (e.g. Hiring wife as secretary for 40% of income).
I had the opposite situation where I finished as an employee and started company. Consulted back to them for a bit and had a fight over insurance. They then paid me as employee and deducted tax instead of paying invoice (because then they were covered on their insurance). I think what they did was illegal. Tax Office hinted it was but wouldn't say anything binding. On advice from Tax Office only option was to take them to court. Tax Office themselves did not care as he hadn't done anything against them. For a few thousand dollars it wasn't worth going to court.
So, summary, as liftlid says I don't think it is black and white. Get good advice before ruining any relationship with people. Sorry for your pain in any case.
Thanks, Cameron
No Patrol now - Just good memories!
Union vs. company s***fight regarding our EBA is intensifying by the minute. Going to work each morning is like driving through thick fog. Not knowing what's going to happen once I'm through the gates... Even scarier, it seems it'll all lead into and beyond xmas too.

Work politics sux big ones Hodge . Creates a toxic culture for everyone involved . Hope it pans out soon for you .
The price of excellence is dicipline , the cost of mediocrity is dissapointment .
It's an absolute bastard mate. The unknown ahead is eating everyone away and the morale at work is at rock bottom. Company is trying to divide and conquer, there is split little social opinionated groups on the union side, and people are stressing. And you don't need that going through your head considering the work we do (High voltage power lines).
People have mortgages, kids, commitments. Weeks ahead will be interesting. As much as I hate it, I'm creeping ever so closer to that depression thread this forum has going.

Took this photo early September check out the dates of the burn period, how does this reliably inform us of when we could be in danger????????????????????????????????????????
Does that mean you can only access the area for 3 months next year?
