Sound deadener paint - Is it worth the effort

    Gday again all,

I am in the slow process of acquiring all the necessary items to do a complete strip out of my GUII. I have just bought some carpet and waterproof underlay, I have also been looking at other peoples rebuilds on here and have paid particular attention to: Replacing of carpet in a GU Patrol & GQ install. I am planning on having this car for a very long time and want to do upgrades for longevity and once only. Supercheap Auto have a paint on sound deadener in a 4L tin, and I am wondering if others have used this or something similar. Is it worth the effort in using produce like this, or am I wasting my time.

Any input and advise will always be greatly appreciated.
(I hope the above links work)

What sorta $$$ are they asking for 4 liters, and how many 2meters does it cover?

I ask as there is a slightly different product called fatmat.
$250 will see you completely cover the interior floor and fire wall. It's a mat, nit paint, but is the same compound.
    Check out eBay.

I did use that stuff, not sure how effective it was and was a bit disappointed that it was still noisy. I didn't do the top half of the rear firewall or front firewall (Ute) just the floor and up to the back window so a better job may well make a difference.

One thing it did do was seal it, if the windows are closed the door needs to be closed a fair bit harder than if it has one open.

I put that carpet deadening underlay down as well and it is stuck to the deadener, so if it gets wet it is going to be a PITA.

That stick on stuff with a foil finish is a better looking product and is probably easier to clean & dry if it gets wet.

My experience, hope it is of some help.
    Cheers

Supercheap was asking about $50 for a 4L tin. But not sure how much it would cover, but I would think it would be a fair bit of area. I was not sure if the paint would be sticky once dried as I want to use the waterproof underlay on top. I need to find a combination sound deadener/ waterproof underlay.

Thanks Macca, I was wondering what it would be like if another product was put on top of it. I will have to see what else I can find, or just ditch it all together and stay with the waterproof underlay & carpet.

    Cheers mate

What's this water proof underlay? Is it the foam stuff from bunnings which they use under floating floors?

Ah, many thanks for that Macca. Yep, having a family with 2 asthmatics (wife & daughter), they are easily set of with fumes, and I dont think I could put up with the nagging for a year to fix the smell..........I think I will just stay clear of it and keep it simple.

Many thanks for your time and input with this issue Macca.

    Cheers

Maybe the fat Mat is the better option for you to.
That underlay looks to be the same as what Nissan use stock.
Is the New carpet vinal backed or open like household carpet?

Out of curiosities macca, how many liters did it take to do the Ute??
    Cheers
