    Ironman - NOT HAPPY!!!!

    Hi All,

Just want to share my experience with Ironman 4x4.

I bought a roofrack about 7 months ago and since then I have been getting rust stains on my 4wd.

The other day I had a look and the tube that its made of is full of water - hence rusting on the inside and leaking out of the factory bungs in the rack.

I emailed the supplier I bought it from in Wangara and he said I need to go to Kewdale to have them look at it - HANDBALL!!

I emailed Ironman and called and they say I have to go to Kewdale so they can sikaflex the holes in the rack closed. I asked what the point of that is and they said to stop the water getting in??????? Not sure how water can get in from the bottom, past the bungs and fill up the tube?? I asked this question and that was their only response (there is no other way water can get into the tubes).

I wasnt really happy about having to make an appointment (2 weeks from now) and having to travel to Kewdale but they said that the only way.

I really dont have time to get all the way there so I have simply sealed up the bungs myself, so time will now tell......

I would steer well clear of the ironman rubbish and will be recommending that everyone I know do the same.

I have pics attached of the mess this has made to my car (Im still trying to clean all the stains off).

    Not happy Jan!!!!!!!

...mate, that is pi$$ poor. Given the amount of rust stained water that had come out of the rack I can only assume that the inside of the rack tubing is well and truly rusted and will only get worse, create weak points and eventually fail. If I where you I would be demanding a replacement rack or indeed given the problem may well extend to the next rack, demand a full refund. It would be interesting to see what your local Consumer Affairs people have to say.

I would also look a going them for the cost of repair to your paint damage, hopefully fixable with a good cut and polish, but I would seek "professional" advice on how best to get it back to new.

    Good luck with it.

That amount of water has to be getting in at a weld where the mesh is attached or the joint in the tube. Angle the car sits at lets it rust then shift the car and get what you got.
    No good for sure.

    Edit;
Instead of blocking the drain hole it needs more so the water can run out, especially the low points or each corner.

Hope you dried it out before sealing or even treated it with some anti rust stuff. Otherwise it will just rust out I think

I'd be pushing for replacement or refund mate, not good!

That's crap... Take it back to the reseller you bought it from, they should give you a new one then and there and sort out the warranty with ironman themselves. Getting you to do the run around is bull!

Agree with all the other responses. The rusty water leaking out is only the evidence of the problem, not the problem itself. Roofracks, especially on 4x4's can take a lot punishment & need to be up to the task. You don't want rust induced fractures in the middle of the Canning Stock Route or the Simpson. Ironman should do the right thing & give you either a full refund or a properly made replacement. If you are reading this thread Ironman, I suggest stepping in promptly & doing the right thing can only be to your benefit.

Ironman are members here and had a Vendors Thread when they were Free.

I have today sent them a pm and directed them here. I assume some Corporate Response may happen on Monday.

The only good thing about an 80 series is..... the front end?? Wrong!!, the Engine?? Wrong!! the Full Time 4WD system?? Wrong!! Its the NissanPatrol.com.au stubby holder fitted over the transfer lever.

Thanks Guys - The rep from Ironman in Perth said I needed to make an appointment to have these bungs sealed up with sikaflex and it would take 2 hours minimum (oh, and they have a waiting room with TV). I would be really struggling to get there as I work 5 days a week and they arent open Saturdays so I suggested that if they are simply going to take out bungs, put some sika on them and push back in that I can do that at my house however I thought that they should reimburse me the cost (I suggested $200 as by my calculations @ $100 per hour these days) but no response.

To be quite honest, I really do not want this thing sitting on my roof anymore as its a ticking time bomb rusting from inside out.

As mentioned above, The last thing I want is it breaking when Im in the middle of nowhere......

Pretty confident Ironman will do the right thing, mate of mine had a winch fail and they changed it no questions asked . Think the seller may be at fault here not Ironman.
To exchange a rusty roofrack will do more for their PR{ironman} than bad mouthing them, lets see what they say first before sticking in the knife M2Cw

They may need to review how its made and possible redesign it.
04 ST 3lt auto, not enough Mods to keep me happy, but getting there

I dont even want a replacement - I dont want their product at all now!!

Considering the quality of what I have, and the service, they can have it back and give me my $$ back....

    Ill buy a different one..
