    Do the water thing. Just experienced the exact same thing with the in laws land cruiser. I thought head as it was using a large amount of water, but no leaks...
    But after some digging he found water in the intake after the gas converter..
    It showed all the signs of a head gasket..
    Using water, a good stream of bubbles coming threw the radiator..

    So I'd check the converter first.. It's a lot cheaper than a head...
