Rusty, I had a good look at both, the Toyota has some brilliant engines but their weak front diffs turned me off quite a bit, and with the Patrol's reputation for having an indestructible driveline it was a winner

I was also after solid-axles, a factory turbo-diesel, coils all round and a manual transmission. So it was down to the 80 Series or the GU Patrol, and with the 80 being such an old vehicle I was really after something new and much preferred the Patrol.

Plus it looks unbeatably tough
