Tomorrow we depart Punsand Bay for a couple of nights at Vrilya Point. Been a great trip to date but two of the Navara boys had to head back to Ballarat yesterday due to a death in the family. Put a bit of a dampener on the group and leaves the wife and I as the on Vics on the trip. Other than GU CAMPER the rest are from QLD.
Bit of excitement in camp last night, a soldier was bitten by a Tiapan while in the toilets. Not sure of his condition but they airlifted him to Thursday Island. A few days earlier someone ran over and killed a Tiapan, when measured it was only a few inches short of the largest Tiapan ever recorded. Most of us now use torches when moving around at night.
Internet and phone service is crap up here so still no pics as I can't connect my laptop.
GU CAMPER is the local recovery vehicle up this way, recovered a well bogged vehicle from the beach a couple of days ago.
The mighty Patrol has preformed flawlessly (as expected). When doing the pre trip check today I did find the Ubolts nuts were only finger tight on the Jayco, could have been an interesting trip down corrugation highway.
Cheers

G'day Apollofish.
I know what it is like to get bitten by a coastal Tiapan, i got farken bitten in 1983 whilst posted to Field Force Battle School at Tully. The farken prick got inside my pack whilst we were training US Rangers at the time during contact drills. They had to casevac me to Townsville hospital were i had antivenene. I was crook for 5 weeks. Then in 1985 i got farken bitten again, this time at high range training area near Townsville, that time it was a farken black snake that got me.
I am glad you are all doing your pre trip checks!
Regards,
RLI

Trip is officially over, we are now back in Cairns and most of the group has split up and headed home. GU CAMPER is still somewhere on the Cape as he headed out to Chilli Beach. GU CAMPER also did the complete OTT twice as he headed out from Vrilya Point to guide one of the group through it. Mammoth effort to complete this, Vrilya Point to Bramwell and do both South and North OTT and return to Vrilya Point in one day. GO THE MIGHTY GU!. He also had to head back and recover a certain Toymota that got hung up on the Vrilya Point entrance in the dark.
All in all a great experience that I'll never forget, I won't miss the 68,456,342 corrugations on the road back though. Meet a great group of people and and have some lifetime memories.
As expected the GU never missed a beat, as a group we had one water pump replaced (Navara), one person run out of fuel 8k short of the destination (Toymota). No punctures, broken windows, or major damage. A couple of recoveries were required.
I was involved in a minor incident with a motor home who decided he needed more of the road than I did and moved into my path as I was overtaking him. Minor damage to the caravan and a rather heated discussion at Bramwell roadhouse. More to come on this one.
Pics will have to wait till I get home as I'm in no rush to get there, off to Undarra Lava tubes tomorrow. Probably spend 3 or 4 nights in Brisbane before heading to Victoria via Coffs Harbour.
Wonder is there are any forum members in that area i could catch up with (hint RLI).
Cheers

It has been a great trip. Met a great bunch of people. Even the Toymota driver Al and his mate Andrew (Stretch).
Jack I have made it back to Cairns. After leaving the group at Bramwell I went out to Chilli Beach via Frenchmans Track. Crossed the Pascoe River no worries. Camped out at Chilli Beach for a night. Met a bloke who snapped his axle crossing the Pascoe River
I have to replace my rear shocks as one of them lost a bolt and wore the thread off. So off to buy some replacements in the morning. Then hopefully go back up to do the CREB track south to North this time once shocks replaced

The result of letting too much air out of my tyre to get out of Palm Creek. Heading South. Oh we'll at least I was the only car to make it up there that day. Three cruisers just had to winch up there
