Best way to stop rear wheels rubbing on flares?

You on corrugated roads or blacktop? Could it be shock absorber fade? Does it do it after you've stopped for a while allowing the fluid in the shocks to re-constitute? Is it bouncing onto the guard or sitting at the same level?
I'm guessing springs aren't rated high enough for the load though.

He mentioned Koni shocks in the original post so I wouldn't think fade would be the issue, but you never know.
I wouldn't recommend extending bump stops to fix the issue.
Edit, Dobinson shocks not Koni's.

Hey Guys,

Whilst I've been lurking in the background on the forum for a few weeks, I figured I'd best post up an introduction!

After Months of Research, weeks looking for the right Patrol, I finally picked it up from Canberra last Thursday! Brought it back home via the Brindabella's. Bought it off a Forum member for a pretty good price. details as below:

So far Im pretty happy with it! Got a huge list of things I want to do to it, funds providing. First couple to start me off, just basic ones:
Store toilet paper (after being dangerously close to being caught short on thursday!)
Headlight and Bonnet protectors.
Floor Matts.

Next off once I sell my old car:
Steel Bullbar - Not sure on brand but I like the ARB Deluxe, just not a fan of the price.
Winch, once the new bar goes on.
Rear Wheel carrier.
Red Arc Battery Isolator.
Drawers for the boot.
Maybe a Roof Console.


Little about me: 23years old, Currently working as an Aircraft Maintenance Engineer in Avionics for Regional Express. Living at home until I can afford to buy a place (might be a while now after this purchase). Girlfriend of 12months who isnt overly enthusiastic about camping /4wheel driving but comes along on the agreement I find her a toilet, and if its over two days, there has to be a shower handy.

Im looking at doing a lot of weekend trips around the area (Wagga, NSW) and hopefully in the next 18months Im looking at doing the Cape if we can get up there!

So either you have way too much gear in teh car or your Kings Springs are too light for the trip mate. Consider a pair of HD springs into the back then take you current springs with you or pick them up on the way home and fit them for general use and the HD springs for heavy touring.

change the set up it will only get very costly the further you go.

Quick call to arb, set of old man emu coils for the rear just shy of $350 supply only. Install isnt overly difficult is it? Jack it up, remove wheel, compress old spring and remove?

Longer bump stops something that would just be an off the shelf item?

Nah mate you won't even need a spring compressor. If you can take both back wheels off together by supporting the chassis then undo the sway bar and the bottom of the shocks and drop the diff down. Plenty of room. Watch you brake line for stretch.

If you can get it on a hoist you'll be done in less than an hour.

Not for 2" lift anyway....

Mine was doing the same thing, but only in the giant holes on the Eastern Sides of the Bigger Dunes in the Simpson, and I have way more air between my tyres and flares, but it was fully loaded with 176Litres of Fuel, 60Litres of water, and all the rest of the gear for four....

undo shocks & rear draglink at the bottom only, brake line will be fine, take wheels off & jack one side of the diff up with another small jack, coil will fall out, do same on the other side, 30 min & done, don't fit air bags as it stress's the top spring hangers, weak link in GU's, common failure often brought by air bags, aftermarket ones are better, lift the suspension 2" add 1" spacers, this will level the ride under load & make it comfortable to drive
