Yeah nice rack mate. You could park a Train on it
Please head over to the intro section and post an introduction thanks mate, where you are, about your car. etc.
Did you build that just to take the spare tyre or where you looking to carry fire wood or something? it is Very Heavy Duty!
I run an Alloy rack full length to keep the weight down, a half rack would be awesome on the GQ but keen on something light to maybe carry a swag and or a spare tyre. Nice work on the hold down clips mate! they can be very expensive to buy.
Its a Nissan! =====> Its a Keeper!! ....... Got a TD42 in it BONUS!!....... I'm a lucky bugger! I've got 2 of em!
Check out my Toy --> MudRunnerTD's GQ From the Ground Up
The only good thing about an 80 series is..... the front end?? Wrong!!, the Engine?? Wrong!! the Full Time 4WD system?? Wrong!! Its the NissanPatrol.com.au stubby holder fitted over the transfer lever.
WARNING: Towballs used for recoveries can, and do kill people and damage property.
Wowzer.. 30kg for a half rack.. r u putting a second story in..
Good build but way to heavy..

Think my one came it at 15kg , could lift easy with one hand.
The point I think they are trying to say is the weight of the rack needs to come off overall load capacity.
As in EG 100kg max for most gutter mount racks ,leaves you 73Kg to play with, but only you know what
you're gunna put up top, I like BTW, I incorperated a few brackets, now hindsight kicking in. I forgot shovel holder
oh well

What everyone has failed to realize is that being a short rack and having something like a high lift jack on one side the amount of stresses and flex a roof rack can do 4x4 driving. All up 85 kilos with everything I want on there, building the way I did ensure that the roof rack has its own strength not relying on the strength of the gunnels. The weight and stresses are evenly distributed, so by doing it the way I have strengthened the gunnels.
I've placed it over the center pillar where all the load spreads over, I designed it for jack Tyre shovel and max traxxs only. Tyre has bolt on mount max tracxs are pinned and locked down. I don't do any touring.
See only you knew what was going up top lol
Did you powder coat or spray paint ??
Its a lot of welds hey??
