Stolen GQ recovered!!! :D ...but it's a write off?

    Hi everyone, happy Friday!

Amazing news - my Patrol was found!!!!!!! can't believe it!!!

There's some camping gear missing and they took the spare tyre but other than that it's in perfect (i.e. pre theft .. hehe) condition.

    Hooray!

The Insurance has written it off?! Apparently there's 6k worth of suspension damage!

So now they're gonna pay me some money and then I can buy it back off them cheaper. Which I'm happy with as long as there are no catches .... i.e. they don't ring up one day and go, oh yeah, it's on the scrap heap!

has anyone else had this happen, where your car was a write off but you want it back?

    anyway, enjoy the long weekend!

    Sarah

The only good thing about an 80 series is..... the front end?? Wrong!!, the Engine?? Wrong!! the Full Time 4WD system?? Wrong!! Its the NissanPatrol.com.au stubby holder fitted over the transfer lever.
WARNING: Towballs used for recoveries can, and do kill people and damage property.

Note that it will be registered as a Repairable Write Off or "Economic Write Off" and you will have to have it re- registered and undertake a VIV inspection. all parts will need to be repaired or replaced and all receipts presented to the VIV Inspector. Can be a daunting task if your not up for it.

Consider very hard what you are buying back and what is knackered on the car. You will be allowed ot empty the car but not take accessories that are listed on the policy. Take your lights if they are not listed and make a break.

could be an opportunity to make a fresh start with money in your pocket. If the car has a long list and they are worth Allot of cash then go for it. Its not a simple buy back though.

I have been through this and it was a little painful. I wanted my TD42 back though and ended spending all the money on the car anyway. Just be very aware of what the car is and what you really want to buy back. drop the romance of the car and look at the actual value of it.

Yea, its what they call a repairable write off. Usually pannel work etc, I'd be weary with suspension as it will need to go over the pit. But more to the point who knows what stress the things been threw so cracks could have formed..

Imo if you can buy it back if price is right. Get a new one and put all the goodies across from old to new and part out or keep the old one as spares..

Check as some insurance company's won't reinsure a car that is a write off and you may go down this road again in the future and end up with nothing!.

Maybe as others said buy it back use as spares ect

Check the VIV process. It's getting expensive. I recently nearly bought something at auction that was repairable right off but luckily checked cost of inspection etc. Hardly worth the trouble IMO. For parts yeah no worries. Re -reg no

Hey all! Yeah trying to get more info from the insurance guys has been painful lol.. they keep telling me different things.. but they did say that due to the age of the car (older than 15 years) they will not notify vicroads and classify it as repairable write off. trying to make sure there are no catches though coz sounds a bit too good to be true if i take the money then buy the car back!

Argh should have gone comprehensive insurance.
