Yeah ok............
Yeah ok............
Racism simply has no place in society - Regardless of where or how it originated.
We can make all the excuses we want and attempt to justify it, pack it, present it.. Whatever.. It simply does not belong.
Eddie knew exactly what he was doing but did not think about the consequences because he is white and privileged unlike many indigenous folk..
He should be stood down by collingwood IMHO. If not where is the lesson in all of this? Where are the consequences?
Racism and discrimination is about the centuries of harm caused and it is deeply rooted in the psyche of those who are the victims..
You keep picking at the scab and it will never heal!

I thought Eddie was just making a references to King Kong because the guy had a beard. How was it turned into a racist thing? I don't know the guy, but when I saw pictures of him, I couldn't even tell if he was foreign, I instantly thought the joke was about his beard (which does look a bit like King Kong's). If he was white born in Australia and had a beard like that and someone made a joke about King Kong, it would just be a joke and nobody would think anything of it.
I am foreign, my wife is foreign and I definitely think some Aussies have a serious problem with non-Australian born or non-white people (ironically even if their parents or grand-parents were born overseas!) as we've seen in the news recently- threatening to kill and cut up people in public is sick (yet somehow almost no action is taken), but this was clearly a joke about the way the guy looked like king kong and there was no mention of a connection with race what so ever. I don't see what the issue is. More fuss is being made over this than the numerous people who have been publicly threatened with death or torture for not being a white Australian recently, which is somehow ok as long as the victim does not press charges, despite the video evidence. What f'ckd up priorities.

Patrol mq I think you have it wrong the person in question Adam Goodes is of Aboriginal decent and for Eddie to compare him to King Kong is totally unexceptable.
He is above the law IMO, I did not buy his crocidile tears, Grow a set Eddy stand down if you're that passionate about Racism. Thats all I'm saying on this subject

racism is the one of the most hated things in society i personally despise it having been a victim of racial abuse and being bashed by 7 people just because of the color of my skin racism pisses me off and what else pisses me off is people reading racism into things that are not purely because of the color of their skin. my son has more hair in his crack and on his back than any all of his multicultural mates and they call him wolf is that racist as well stop this pandering to the do gooders and leave his remark as it was intended bit of a luagh over large frame i hope no one takes offence to that large remark cause i said large i mean large not fat. has anyone relised this hits my cranky nerve.LUV KEV

I find it really strange that some of you are comparing what names you call your mates? to the events of the past week.
So you would walk up to some you don't know in a park or on a bus or in the supermarket and call them the first name that comes to your head?
kevino7, sorry I must of missed the reference that it was about his large frame, do you have a link for this?
Well I guessed he wasn't say white Australian. I hate racism too, I gent hints of it all the time being English and once went nuts at some bogan for telling my Japanese wife to speak English to my kids (she speaks fluent English too), but I really thought the comment was regards the similarity of his beard being like KK. Listening to the recording, it wasn't obviously a racial slur to me, but when I heard about the ape comment from the 13 yo girl, which was treated as a racial attack, then this could clearly be treated as connected. I do wonder though, if he was Australian born, but not aboriginal, would it have been treated as racist? Would the 13 yo girls comments have been too? Did she say it because she's racist towards aboriginals or just because of his looks irrespective of his origins? I don't know what she was thinking. But the recent publicised incident that have happened on public transport where others have joined in have made me sick and prevented my wife from wanting to use public transport. I really think punishing these perpetrators should be a priority.
I do find it ironic when some Australians say they don't want foreigners in their country when their origins are in fact from outside of Australia and the aborigines are the indigenous people

Given the 'ape' remark by that young girl last week, of which we don't know the full content, but which was taken by the person at whom it was aimed as racist, & subsequently considered racist by others, including Eddie Maguire, then it seems absolutely clear that Maguire's King Kong references in relation to the same person were also racist. Just because they were said without thinking makes them no less racist. Racism is racism regardless of whether it's intent is to hurt. No one should be making excuses for Maguire, who's personal beliefs are plain for all to see.
I agree with Billy Bleed's post above, although I'm not convinced that Maguire actually did know what he was doing ...... which is worst knowingly being racist or ignorantly being racist?
I also don't find 'do goodism' that palatable. It's just another means of negatively stereotyping folks!

The fact that Eddie followed up his King Kong remark with a reference to the Ape remark suggests he knew what he was saying.
One of my best mates that I have known all my life is half Aboriginal and a fantastic bloke, I have often joked about his heritage never meaning harm and he has always laughed about it but I am starting to realize even this type of banter is not acceptable, he may be offended by my comments and just keep it to himself or others that hear may take offence.
I have never intended on being raciest but have decided I will try to think before I speak in future.
