Removed the wire winch cable & roller fairlead & fitted the Dyneema & alloy hause. Knocked off just over 13 kg & feel a lot safer 'playing' with the winch now.
I reckon the wire cable must've been pretty new when I bought the vehicle, it was in very good condition. I'd expected it to be curl up & become unmanageable when laid out on he ground, but it just laid flat behaved itself.
When things were happening slower as I got closer to the tree I was winching the vehicle to, I thought briefly that the battery might be going flat, until I remembered that pulling power reduces with each layer on the winch. Phew!

As for your old winch cable take it to a cable shop and get eyelets fitted both ends
cost is very minimal and makes a great extension cable if needed

Went for a drive to Grovedale Geelong to pick up a redgum slab.
Having just filled it will now work out my fuel figures, its a 100kph
both ways most via fwy.
